What is FSC certification?
FSC is the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which aims to promote responsible global forest management, and consists of representatives of environmental protection organizations, timber trade associations, government forestry departments, local residents' organizations, social forestry groups, and timber product certification bodies from more than 70 countries.
FSC forest certification (timber certification), also called forest sustainable management certification. It is a tool that uses market mechanisms to promote sustainable forest management and achieve ecological, social and economic goals. It is currently a more mature and complete forest certification system.
It usually consists of Forest Management Certification (FM) and Chain of Custody Certification (COC) for forest products.
FSC-Forest Management Certification (FM) mainly applies to forest management units (i.e. forest farms), and is a process whereby an independent third-party FSC forest certification body audits the performance of the forest management in accordance with recognized principles and standards based on the established forest management standards, in order to certify that it meets the requirements for sustainable management.
FSC - Chain of Custody Certification (COC) mainly applies to each production chain of wood processing enterprises (wooden furniture, packaging boxes, paper printing, etc.), to the transportation of logs, processing, and to the logistics of the entire chain of identification and certification, the purpose of this certification is to ensure that the final product comes from certified forests, and is well managed.
What kind of enterprises is the FSC forest certification system applicable to?
1. Forestry enterprises: state-owned forest farms, enterprise forest farms, community forest farms, private forest farms and all other forest farms.
2. Enterprises directly or indirectly processing forest products: log factories, panel factories, furniture factories, flooring factories, door and window factories, pulp factories, paper factories, packaging factories, printing factories and so on. Involved in the wood products related industries are: flooring industry, furniture industry, household industry, musical instruments industry, stationery industry, toy industry, gift industry, home appliance industry, paper industry, packaging industry, printing industry, newspaper and magazine publishing industry.
3. Forest products trading enterprises: international trade enterprises related to forest products, sales enterprises and so on.
